|Lance Awarded ETP Funds For Training Support|
Lance Camper Mfg. Corp. has been granted a $490,200 contract from the California Employee Training Panel (ETP) to train existing and newly hired employees. The training is to occur over a 24-month period.
The Employment Training Panel is the state's premier program supporting job creation and retention through training. Since its creation in 1982 by the California State Legislature, the panel reimburses employers for the costs of training existing workers, funds training for unemployed workers to re-enter the workforce and helps to ensure California businesses have the skilled workers they need to remain competitive. Businesses determine their own training needs and how to provide training. The ETP is funded by California employers through a special payroll tax.
"With the funding from the ETP, the plan is to elevate our new hire and leadership training to the next level," states Jack Cole, President and CEO of Lance. "We currently spend on average 2.5 hours of training with new hires prior to being assigned to their department, learning the remaining skills on the job. The ETP funds will be used to expand this training to a full 40 hour onboarding program," adds Cole.
"The plan includes new hire orientation, safety, literacy and manufacturing skills training," states Roger A. Strong, Lance's Human Resources Manager. "Our leads, supervisors and managers will also receive computer and leadership/management skills training. Additionally, we will be setting up a practical application lab where employees will get both classroom and hands-on training and be tested prior to hitting the plant floor and again after some time in their department. The training is planned to help improve quality and job satisfaction while decreasing turnover, injuries and workers compensation liability," adds Strong.
