The entire park is a dramatic landscape, with elevations ranging from 3,666 feet at the lowest point in the Coalpits Wash to 8,726 feet high at Horse Ranch Mountain.

Located at the nexus of the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin, and Mojave Desert, the park is diverse both in terms of geography and terrain and in the plant and animal life that inhabits the park.
