The Chinese New Year marks the first day of a new year on the Chinese calendar, and this year, it will take place on Saturday, January 28.  Elaborate Chinese New Year celebrations take place across the U.S. this time of year, and you can't go wrong by visiting one of these awesome festivities for yourself.

Chinese New Year Parade -- San Francisco, California

San Francisco is a city that always offers a good time, but if you'll be in town, you'll want to head to the city's Chinatown area. San Francisco has been celebrating the Chinese New Year since the 1860s, and the celebration is always fun for the whole family with an elaborate parade including marching bands, floats, martial arts groups, lion dancers, Chinese acrobats, stilt walkers and the awe-inspiring Golden Dragon.

Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade -- Chicago, Illinois

If you'll be in the Midwest, be sure to stop in Chicago's Chinatown region for the celebration of the Year of the Rooster. This Chinese New Year celebration will feature an unforgettable parade with lion teams, floats, marching bands, a 100-foot-long mystical dragon and other performers.

Lunar New Year Houston -- Houston, Texas

Houston will bring in the Year of the Rooster with celebrations featuring ceremonies, musical performances, lion dances, Korean dances, Kung Fu performances, drum dances, plenty of fireworks and other performances. Visit the Viet Hoa Center at the Beltway 8 Plaza to enjoy the free event.
